HateHurts
HateHurts is a program started by Gift of Life in America to spread the message of forgiveness. Henri Landwirth, Founder of HateHurts, survived unimaginable hatred and cruelty and yet he blames no one. By promoting Henri’s story of forgiveness, HateHurts is determined to help all of us realize how important it is to forgive those who have hurt us.
Approach
nGen was hired to create a program that would engage the youth of America in spreading the message of forgiveness. The name for the program would have to be powerful enough to create the right attitude in the next generation. The program’s message had to create a positive energy but be real enough to be taken seriously by a cynical audience.
Calling the program “HateHurts” defined it with a simple yet contagious message. Using stylized, illustrated faces focused on the emotions associated with hatred. The bright red and black color scheme throughout the site further reinforced the feelings of anger and hopelessness. Slightly worn and skewed lettering was used to create the alternative and uneasy feeling of the sad subject matter as well as reaching out to the younger audience.
